Bamboo shoots cut in half, lying in a container made from the adult bamboo cane. These shoots are edible, and are harvested for human and animal consumption. Each of the shoots has been cut in half lengthwise, and this has revealed a series of internal hollow sections. These hollow sections elongate along with the shoot as it forms the tall woody cane of the adult plant. The container that the shoots are in is one of these hollow sections (now cylindrical in shape) from the adult plant. The container was formed by slicing the section in half lengthwise. Bamboo is a member of the grass family Gramineae. Bamboo is found in tropical and subtropical areas, most commonly in Asia.
