Pomegranate (Punica granatum). This fruit is a rich source of potassium and vitamins A, C and E. Its hard skin can be cut open to reveal numerous red seeds. Each seed has an edible outer coat (aril) of sweet, acidic red flesh which is often surrounded by a very bitter white membrane that needs to be removed before the seeds are consumed. This fruit is native to Asia but is now widely cultivated in regions with a warm climate.
