RNA polymerase from rabies virus, molecular model. This is a single subunit from an enzyme, involved in the replication of the rabies virus's RNA after it has infected a host cell. The rabies virus is a lyssavirus usually transmitted to humans through dog bites. Humans develop flu- like symptoms, then encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) leading to anxiety, confusion, delirium and death. In this model, solid colours represent the secondary structure of the protein (coils are alpha helices; arrows are beta sheets) and the faded tubular structure behind represents the individual atoms and bonds.
