GAGA transcription factor molecule. Molecular model showing the primary (rods) and secondary (helices) structure of GAGA factor (green and blue) complexed with a molecule of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid, yellow and orange). GAGA is a transcription factor protein. That is, it regulates the transcription of DNA to RNA (ribonucleic acid) by the enzyme RNA polymerase. RNA is the intermediate product between a gene and its protein. GAGA binds to sequences in the DNA that are rich in G and A nucleotides and enhances the transcription of the next gene on the DNA molecule.
