Gem-studded puffball fungi (Lycoperdon perlatum). These fungi are white in colour when young and turn brown once mature. They are only edible when they are young. When they mature, a hole in the top opens to release spores, which are released when the body is compressed. Photographed in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK, in September.
