Mumbai monsoon. Tropical rainfall measuring mission (TRRM) satellite image of rainfall over Mumbai (lower centre) and Maharashtra State, India, on 26 July 2005. The different colours represent different intensities of rainfall, going from blue (lowest) through green and yellow to red (highest). This day saw the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in Indian history; 944 millimetres of rain fell in a 24-hour period. This monsoon rain, which was combined with high tides, caused massive flooding and damage. It is thought that up to 1000 people have been killed. This is a composite image. The rain rates, a combination of data from the TRRM precipitation radar and the TRRM microwave imager, are overlaid on data from the TRRM visible infrared scanner.
