Porlock Ridge, Exmoor, Somerset, UK. This ridge, at Porlock Bay, started forming in the mid Holocene (around 5000 years ago) when sea levels were higher and coastal erosion greater. The ridge has since thinned due to a decrease in supply of material. This ridge has protected the coast and land behind it, but erosion is causing the sea to frequently inundate the land, turning it into a salt marsh.
