Tilted mountain. Mass of rock that has tilted up out of the surrounding rock and formed a mountain. This was caused by the seismic forces associated with the tectonic plates that make up the Earth's crust. These forces are most apparent where the plates meet, crumpling and distorting the rock to form mountains along the boundaries. Photographed near Lytton, in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada.
