Native bismuth. Bismuth is a heavy, brittle, crystalline metal. Though often white in colour, this sample, which is native and untreated, has a silver-grey hue. Compounds and alloys of bismuth are used widely in cosmetics, medicines, magnets and solders. This sample measures 50 millimetres across.
