Bulldozing Wao Kele o Puna rainforest, on the slopes of Kilauea volcano, in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii, USA. The rainforest was being bulldozed to make way for geothermal development. Developers wanted to drill experimental geothermal wells in the rainforest to use as sources of energy, which could solve the state of Hawaii's dependence on oil to generate electricity. Protesters successfully waged a strong campaign to stop any further rainforest destruction in Wao Kele O Puna, the last expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in the USA. The rainforest is now being preserved.
