Alfred Binet (1857-1911), French psychologist. Binet is famous for developing one of the first tests of intelligence. Developed with Theodore Simon from 1905 to 1908, the Binet-Simon Test led to the development of IQ (intelligence quotient) tests. Binet and Simon developed their test by assessing the intelligence of a range of school children. Born in Nice, Binet studied law at the Sorbonne in Paris, and then took up psychology.
