William Temple Hornaday (1854-1937), US zoologist. Hornaday spent much of his early career collecting specimens on his travels in Asia. When he returned to the USA he became chief taxidermist at the US National Museum in 1882 before being appointed director of the New York Zoological Park in 1896. He was passionate about conservation, and was influential in the passage of wildlife protection laws. He also founded wildlife protection awards for the Boy Scouts of America.
