Fractured palm bones. Coloured X-ray of the hand of a 35 year old man showing three fractured meta- carpal bones. The skeleton of the hand is seen, with fingers bones (phalanges) at upper frame and wrist bones (carpals) at bottom centre. Five metacarpal bones make up the palm of the hand, of which three reveal oblique (slanted) fractures. The site of each fracture is where the bone is not continuous; two fractures reveal fragmentation of the bone. Multiple fractures such as these may be due to a crush injury.
