MODEL RELEASED. Blood infusion equipment in use on a patient's thigh. This is a ThalaSet infusion set, designed for use in patients with long-term drug infusion needs. The plastics and adhesives used are designed to reduce allergic reactions. A tube (right) brings the drug to the needle (left), which pierces the skin and delivers the drug by subcutaneous infusion. This equipment is designed for use in Desferal (deferoxamine) infusion, a chelating agent used to remove excess iron from the body. Desferal is usually used to counter the high iron levels following blood transfusions used to treat conditions such as thalassaemia.
