Victoria Crater. Mars Exploration Rover (MER) panoramic false-colour view of Victoria Crater, a Martian crater visited by the Opportunity rover in September, October and November 2006. During this period, Earth-Mars communications were disrupted by the Sun, and the rover was left to collect these images with its panoramic camera. The rover is on the edge of the crater, on a promontory called Cape Verde. At centre left is another promontory, called Cape St Mary. Two weeks after finishing this panorama on 7 November 2006, the rover arrived at Cape St Mary to photograph the rock layers of Cape Verde. Cape St Mary, which is 15 metres high, is about 40 metres distant. The far side of the crater is about 800 metres away.
