Fig.A shows the outside of the converter. Fig.B shows the converter being charged with molten iron, Fig.C shows air being blown through the furnace from the tuyeres in the base. Fig.D shows the resulting steel being poured into a ladle (Fig.E), which in turn is tapped at its base to fill ingot moulds (Fig.F). Fig.G shows the arrangement of the tuyeres in the base of the converter, shown in detail in Fig.H. This picture first appeared in the imaginatively-titled book insAn Autobiographyins by Sir Henry Bessemer in 1905.
