Automobile accident. Artwork from 1904 of an early automobile that has crashed into a horse-drawn cart in a village in France. The drivers, who are being accused of speeding and frightening the local livestock, are arguing with the local people while the police make notes and attempt to calm the situation. The first internal combustion engine cars were developed in the 1880s, with the first speed limit introduced in the UK in 1861. This artwork was published in the Parisian daily newspaper Le Petit Journal.
