Green turtles (Chelonia mydas) resting on the seabed. This turtle is found in warm tropical waters. It is herbivorous and feeds on algae and sea grasses, although young turtles may eat small animals such as snails and jellyfish. The green sea turtle grows to around 1.5 metres in length and weighs up to 300 kilograms. It migrates thousands of miles during the breeding season to return to its hatching site. The female lays up to 200 eggs at a time. The green sea turtle is an endangered species due to its many predators including sharks and humans. Photographed off Sipadan Island, in the Celebes Sea, Malaysia.
