North Island brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli) using its long beak to search for food. It has been bred in captivity. This flightless bird is native to the North Island of New Zealand. Juveniles are preyed upon by many predators, which is leading to a decline in numbers on the island. The female lays around two eggs, which are incubated by the male. Photographed in the Pukaha Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre, North Island, New Zealand.
