Male smew duck (Mergellus albellus) with its crest raised. The crest is formed by the feathers on the duck's head. This duck is found in northern Europe and Asia. It migrates to coastal areas or inland lakes of the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, northern Germany and Great Britain. It feeds mainly on fish, insect larvae and other insects.
