European eagle owl (Bubo bubo) turning its head. It must turn its head in order to change views because its eyes are fixed in position in its skull. The neck of an owl has 14 vertebrae, which is twice as many as the human neck. This allows the owl to turn its head through a range of 270 degrees measured from a forward facing position.
