Wild boar. Woodcut artwork of a wild boar (Sus scrofa). Native throughout much of Europe, North Africa and Asia, the wild boar is the wild ancestor of the domestic pig. The wild boar is omnivorous and lives in communal groups. It became extinct in Great Britain in the 17th century. However, feral breeding populations now exist, having escaped from farms in some areas.
