A Nyangatom woman with ornamental scarring on her stomach. The scarrs are made with a razor and then infected with ash and cow dung to cause the raised welts. Typical of her tribe, she is wearing multiple layers of beads in necklaces, an elaborately beaded calfskin skirt and metal bracelets and amulets. The Nyangatom or Bume are a Nilotic tribe of semi-nomadic pastoralists who live along the banks of the Omo River in south-western Ethiopia.
