Hut Tarn lies at an altitude of 14,800 feet, close to the peaks of Mount Kenya (17,058 feet). The plants in the foreground are giant groundsels or tree senecios (Senecio johnstonii ssp battiscombei) and just visible on the right is a lobelia (Lobelia telekii) . Both are plant species displaying afro-montane gigantism that flourish above 10,000 feet.
