A Malagasy woman with fish she has bought from fishermen in a fishing village just outside Antsiranana, more commonly known as Diego after the Portuguese captain, Diego Suarez, who sailed there in 1543. Antsiranana means 'port' in the Malagasy language.Diego's deep-water harbour encircled by hills is of strategic importance to Madagascar.
