A male, bull, caribou (Rangifer tarandus) grazing. Members of the deer family caribou are half the size of moose. Both the male and female caribou grow antlers which are shed each year. It is unique in the deer family for the Caribou females to have antlers. In the Maine Algonquin dialect caribou means 'scraping hooves'.
