Urine recycling research. Researchers Tove Larsen and Judith Lienart of the Institute Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Science and Water Technology) working on the NoMix toilet. This toilet works on the principle of separating urine from solid waste, making it easier to process for later agricultural use. Contaminants, toxic chemicals, and traces of hormones, are removed. A series of laboratory tests are carried out to verify that the product of this recycling is environmentally friendly.
