Crater Lake, Oregon, USA. This lake formed around 6900 years ago, following the collapse of a large volcano. The lake itself is around 600 metres deep, and the height of the caldera wall ranges from 300-600 metres above the level of the lake (equivalent to over 2000 metres above sea level). The lake is around 8 kilometres wide and 10 kilometres long.
