Cliffs and beach at Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK.The cliffs are undercut by the sea, erosion and cliff falls. These cliffs are composed of Bridport Sands, which were laid down in a shallow, tropical sea about 180 million years ago (Middle Jurassic). Alternating with the soft sand are protuding harder bands of rock where the sand has been cemented together with calcite and is much more resistant to weathering. This coast is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
