IceCube neutrino detector. Computer artwork of the neutrino detector array at the IceCube observatory. IceCube is an international high-energy neutrino observatory in the ice below the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. The IceCube detector consists of approximately 80 strings of 60 digital optical modules (spheres) deployed at depths between 1400 and 2400 metres. These modules detect the light (Cherenkov radiation, blue) produced when neutrinos pass through the ice, enabling the detector to track particles produced by the interaction.
