Glucocorticoid receptor, molecular model. This receptor (AncGR2, blue and yellow) is the one to which cortisol and other glucocorticoids bind (GR stands for glucocorticoid receptor). Here, it is binding with a molecule of dexamethasone (grey, red and yellow), a glucocorticoid steroid hormone. When used as a drug, dexamethasone is used to treat inflammation, and it can also be used as an immunosuppressant to treat autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. This receptor is also known as NR3C1 (nuclear receptor subfamily 3, group C, member 1).
