Common pollen beetle (Meligethes aeneus), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This beetle feeds on a wide variety of flowers from spring to late autumn. It is an important pollinating insect. It is a pest on the crop oilseed rape, but causes little damage in gardens. Magnification: x70 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
