Wilbur A. Sawyer (1879-1951), US medical researcher. Sawyer was an expert in tropical diseases. He often travelled abroad to study diseases such as yellow fever and hookworm. In the 1920s and 1930s, he worked in Africa and Australia for the International Health Board of the Rockefeller Foundation. He was Secretary-General of the Fourth International Congress of Tropical Medicine and Malariology held in 1948. He was President of the American Society of Tropical Medicine (from 1943) and a member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine. Photographed in 1934.
