Ice volcano eruption on Titan, artwork. Titan is the largest moon of Saturn, and is located in the outer reaches of the solar system. It has an atmosphere of nitrogen with dense clouds of hydrocarbons that are thought to form liquid oceans. Surface temperatures on Titan can reach minus 183 degrees Celsius, causing the formation of hydrocarbon ices. It is thought that the eruption of ice volcanoes, as seen here, may replenish the atmosphere with hydrogen, water and liquid methane.
