Engraving of a lemming. At the top the animal is identified as a 'Mus Norvagicus, vulgo Leming' (Norwegian mouse, commonly lemming), with the skeleton shown below. The modern Norway lemming is Lemmus lemmus, a common species found in northern Scandinavia and parts of Russia. This engraving comes from Old Worm's Museum Wormianum, published at Amsterdam in 1655.
