Guillaume Philandrier (1505-1563), French humanist. Phuilandrier was born at Chatillon-sur-Seine. He was a student of Jean Perelle and was employed as a secretary to the bishop Georges d'Armagnac, at that time the French Ambassador to the court of Venice. He travelled as part of the bishop's retinue to Venice and Rome, spending some time studying under Serlio. A friend of Rabelais, Philandrier made a name as a commentator on architechture. His treatise on the De Architectura of Vitruvius was very influential on later Renaissance architects. Philandrier is credited with the design of much of the cathedral at Rodez. When d'Armagnac was appointed archbishop at Toulouse, Philandrier went to Rodez and became archdeacon. He died while on a vists to Toulouse.
