This operation was carried out following exploratory bowel surgery prompted by an initial diagnosis of an intestinal lesion. The operation removed the tumour and the surrounding intestines (the sigmoid colon and rectum), and the healthy intestine was diverted to a colostomy opening in the side of the abdomen.
