Surface water on catalyst. Simulation of the dynamics of surface water molecules (red, green, and blue) on a catalytically active nanomaterial (dots below water molecules). The simulation uses data from a series of experiments using a neutron backscattering spectrometer at the Spallation Neutron Source. The catalyst used was a titanium oxide nanopowder. The results will help the development of improved catalysts. This work is being carried out at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, USA. Image published in 2009.
