North Africa at night. International Space Station (ISS) image of Egypt (centre) and the Sinai Peninsula (bottom right) at night. The Mediterranean Sea is across top. Parts of the ISS and a docked Russian spacecraft can be seen around the edges of the image. Lights (yellow) of increasing intensity show areas of increasing population, with areas of few lights being more sparsely populated. The majority of Egypt's population live in the fertile areas surrounding the River Nile, whilst much of the rest of the country is empty desert. Image taken on 28th October 2010 by an Expedition 25 crew member.
