Archaeotherium mortoni mammal hunting a camel-like prey animal, artwork. This mammal is an entelodont, a distant relative of the pig, that inhabited savanna and scrubland in the Oligocene-Miocene period. It is thought that it was omnivorous, but with a greater tendency to predation and carnivorous behaviour than today's pigs. The prey animal here (left) is Poebrotherium. This scene is based on fossils found in South Dakota, USA, dating from the Oligocene.
