Urine analysis. 16th-century artwork showing the use of the matula, a transparent bulbous flask that is held up to the light to examine the colour of urine samples. This artwork is from 'Ortus sanitatis', a work thought to be by the German physician Johann Wonnecke von Caub (active circa 1484, also known as Johannes de Cuba). This woodcut is from an edition published after 1500 in Strasbourg by the German printer Johann Reinhard Gruninger (circa 1455-1533).
