Friday Mosque, by Unknown Artist, 1325 - 1365, 14th Century. Iran, Yazd, Masjed-e Jameh (Friday Mosque). View Friday Mosque. A common practice at the time of the Ilkhanid Dynasty, paired minarets were built beside pishtaqs, The minarets were decorated with ceramic spiral or lozenge patterned designs with repeated Banei calligraphy invocations to Allah. The dizzyingly narrow facade is entirely covered with ceramic mosaics, among the best made of the period. 2009 photograph.
