The Great Hall of Marshall's Flax Mill, Leeds, Yorkshire, England. The roof is supported on cast iron columns, and glazed skylights give even overhead light. The machinery is powered, through belt and shafting, by a steam engine. The long fibres of the stem of the Flax plant (Linum) was processed to produce linen.
