Abnormal serotonin levels are associated with schizophrenia. The anti-depressant Prozac works by preventing serotonin in the brain being destroyed. Serotonin is also widely distributed in the tissues, particularly the blood platelets. It is thought that it plays a role in inflammation similar to that of histamine.
