Potassium permanganate solution. Concentrated (left) and dilute solutions of potassium manganate (VII): KMnO4 (also called potassium permanganate). This is a common oxidising agent, and its strong colour helps to detect colour changes as it takes part in oxidation reactions and is reduced (thus changing colour). Such colour changes are easier to detect in more dilute solutions.
