Close-up of a type of mathematical jigsaw puzzle invented by Professor Roger Penrose (born 1931), theoretical mathematician at Oxford University and inventor of twistor theory. The jigsaw puzzle consists of quantities of just two pieces which can be fitted together without ever repeating exactly the same pattern. The shapes, which Penrose invented in 1972, solved a mathematical puzzle.
