Groups of rounded yeast- like spores are seen connected by long filaments, known as hyphae. These hyphae spread into a large fungal network, known as a mycelium, and produce more spores. Candida albicans causes the infection known as candidiasis. This affects moist mucous membranes of the body, such as skin folds, mouth, respiratory tract and vagina. Oral and vaginal conditions are known as thrush. Genital thrush is sexually transmitted. Magnifica- tion: x3,000 at 6x4.5cm size. Magnification; x3200 at 5x7cm size.
