The tentacles are of two kinds: longer marginal ones & shorter inner ones. Insects, attracted by the droplets, become stuck to the tips of the longer tentacles, which bend over & bring the insect towards the shorter ones, forming a tight grip. Proteolytic enzymes secreted by the tentacles digest the insect, & the products are absorbed by the leaf. Drosera grows in a nitrogen-deficient environment (bogs), which it overcomes through a carnivorous diet.
