Sundew. Round-leaved sundew plants, Drosera rotundifolia. The leaves have long stalks and circular blades. Each leaf grows tentacles capped by glands which produce a sticky droplet. These droplets attract insects which then become stuck to them. The insect's struggles stimulate the tentacles, which slowly bend over, further entangling it. Enzymes are then secreted which digest the soft body parts of the victim. The sundew has evolved this predatory mechanism to counter the mineral-deficiency in the soils of its natural habitat (uplands and bogs). Nitrogen in particular is obtained from the insect.
