Gypsy rose flower (2nd of 4 images). Close-up of the developing flower head of a field scabious or gypsy rose, Knautia arvensis. The flower head is formed from many small flowers known as florets. The pollen-producing parts of the flower head, the anthers, stand on stalk-like filaments. The gypsy rose is a medium tall perennial plant which grows in dry grassy places and corn fields, and flowers between June and October. See photos B760/352-355 for the sequence of development from floret buds to seed production.
